I get asked all the time how to keep jewelry looking new, especially with how much our weather here in Nigeria can test gold plating and stainless steel. Here is what I tell every customer.
1. Take it off before you shower, swim or apply perfume and lotion. Chemicals are the fastest way to wear down plating.
2. Store each piece separately in a soft pouch or box, not tangled in a pile. Chains scratch each other more than you would think.
3. Wipe your pieces with a soft, dry cloth after wearing them, especially in humid weather.
4. Avoid direct sunlight for long periods when you are not wearing the piece. Heat and light can dull plating over time.
5. For stainless steel pieces, mild soap and water is usually all you need.
None of this is complicated, it is just consistent. Treat your pieces gently and they will hold up for years, humidity and all.
